28 swimmers from Down Syndrome Swimming GB travelled to Ayr in Scotland to take part in a two day training camp.

"Mum and I flew to Glasgow from Heathrow T5 and then hired a car to drive the short journey to Ayr.  We stayed in a fantastic hotel overlooking the beach and mum and I walked along the beach on the Friday afternoon.

We got up early on Saturday and started our day land training concentrating on core strength.  We trained in the pool in the afternoon working on stroke count.  One of our swimmer's parents organised a disco and a buffet on Saturday evening which was great fun.

Sunday morning started with a spin class which was fantastic and then we headed to the pool for the afternoon session concentrating on underwater work"

Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships

The 10th Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships were held in Albufeira, Portugal

from 17th – 22nd October 2022.   Twenty three Nations took part with 163 swimmers participating in this international short course event held over five days of incredible swimming.

WR brought home 3 Silver Medals - 200m breaststroke, 4 x 100m Medley  and 4 x 50m Medley Relays.  He is now ranked 17th in the world.

WR's weekly training schedule consists of 3 sessions with Teddington Masters SC plus two pool sessions under the skilful guidance of David and Amanda from Swimming Nature at Lensbury.  In addition he trains 1:1 with a strength and conditioning coach, outside, in all weathers!   His commitment and determination most certainly paid off and he gained personal best times in all of his races at these World Champs - including a staggering 16 second personal best in his 200m breaststroke.

Every member of the 30 strong GB squad contributed to the success of the team with a huge number achieving personal best times.  GB swimmers collected 50 medals in total – 18 gold, 22 silver and 10 bronze.

From the Opening Ceremony to the Gala Dinner, where Team GB were crowned overall World Champions, the swimmers excelled in their determination, dedication, resilience and support for one another.  A true demonstration of Team Spirit.

WR continues to train hard and is looking forward to bagging a medal or two at the Inaugural British Down Syndrome Swimming Championships due to be held at K2, Crawley on 19/20 November 2022!

THE NORMANSFIELD & RICHMOND FOUNDATION

A massive Thank You! From Absolute Support to you...
We would like to share our appreciation for the support received from both the Hampton Fund & The Normansfield & Richmond foundation, with their generous grants to our charity. From your support, we have managed to reduce electricity & Gas bills, which has been a massive help during the current cost of living crisis, receive funding for new furniture in one of the supported living sites and take steps towards booking a well needed, group holiday for the people we support, which could not have been possible without your support. Thank you very much for helping us to support others to live a fulfilled life.
